About this Trip

Imagine waking up to the sound of the ocean, grabbing your board, and heading out knowing you’re about to surf one of the longest waves on the planet.

Chicama, Peru, isn’t just a surf spot, it’s a rhythm. A slow rhythm where days revolve around tides, wind, and how many sections you managed to connect on that endless left. This is a real fishing village, still simple, still local, still grounded. No rush. No noise. Just ocean, boards, and good food after long sessions.

Here, progression feels natural. You’re not fighting crowds or conditions. Long, forgiving walls let you work on your turns, your style, your flow. You have time to think, adjust, try again, all on the same wave. Some rides go on for more than 2 kilometers, which means more chances to improve in one single wave than in a whole session anywhere else.

Conditions are friendly and consistent, especially with south swells and clean offshore winds. And the best part? You don’t even paddle out, a boat takes you straight to the lineup, so all your energy goes into surfing, not battling currents.

This is the kind of trip where you come back surfing better, breathing slower, and seeing things a little differently, with tired legs, and that quiet smile that only long waves and simple days can give you.

Important Notes

Climate and what to bring
  • Mild climate, with average temperatures of 16°C to 22°C in July.
  • Cold mornings and evenings, sunny days with sea breezes.
  • Take light clothing for the day, warm clothing for the evening and a windbreaker.
Recommended Wetsuit Type
  • The water in Chicama is cold, averaging 16°C to 18°C.
  • A 3/2mm wetsuit is recommended for greater comfort while surfing.
  • For those who feel colder, a 4/3mm wetsuit may be a good option. If possible, take 2 wetsuits so you can always change into a dry one.
🏧 No banks or ATMs for foreigners:
Chicama does not have any ATMs, so be sure to withdraw cash on the way. If you are arriving during business hours, ask your taxi driver to stop at an ATM before you arrive in Chicama. Some ATMs limit withdrawals to 400 soles per transaction, although it is possible to make multiple withdrawals. Others allow up to 700 soles per transaction
💵 Dollar exchange:
You can exchange US dollars at the local bank in Chicama, but they do not accept notes with the serial number “CB B2.” The notes must be in perfect condition (no stamps, writing or tears). The exchange rate here is better than at the airports and quite similar to most exchange offices, so it is worth exchanging your money locally.
💰 Payments in soles:
Most services, such as taxis, surf photography, boat trips, massages, souvenirs and shopping in small markets, are paid in soles. However, some restaurants and the main market accept cards.
