About this Trip

Missing perfect waves? Don’t just daydream. Join us in Indonesia for a surf adventure that will leave you buzzing and inspired.

First Stop — Nias, North Sumatra, Indonesia

Surfing in North Sumatra is raw and adventurous: long, running walls, crystal water and that “expedition” feeling in a remote, stunning setting.
It’s more than another surf spot—it’s a pilgrimage for surfers chasing the perfect right and the beauty of the ocean. Think turquoise water and a trip that lifts your surfing to the next level.
What to expect

We’ll surf Nias—famous for its perfect waves—but don’t worry, there’s something for everyone. You’ll find mellower peaks to sharpen fundamentals and more challenging sections for those ready to step up. Clear water and consistent swell make this an ideal playground for surfers of all levels. We’ll film every day in 4K and run video breakdowns of each session, so you progress steadily and feel the difference after 7 days in paradise.

April swells

April is Nias’ sweet spot: reliable swell and friendly conditions. Expect warm water, sunny skies, and plenty of chances to score unforgettable rides.

Who it’s for

Intermediates & advanced: Ready to level up? Nias is your chance to push yourself and feel the thrill of dream waves. With personalized coaching and video analysis, you’ll refine technique and build real confidence.

The Nias wave

This wave works for both surfers learning to draw a clean line and those already putting turns together. Many sessions start with a barrel section, then the wave opens into a long, rippable wall perfect for practicing maneuvers. The reef is deep, so you won’t stress about the bottom—and it’s not just for shortboards: longboarders love it for the long, flowing sections that reward style and footwork.

Note

This is the first leg of the trip. Our focus is a safe, welcoming, fun environment where you can progress at your own pace. Whether you’ve had limited water time or you’re hunting that perfect barrel, we’ve got you.

Second Stop — The Bukit, Bali

Bukit Peninsula: Bali’s wave playground. Whether you’re catching your first green waves or chasing the barrel of your life, the Bukit has something for everyone.

What to expect
  • Waves for all levels: from friendly runners to heaving barrels, the Bukit has it all.

  • Expert guidance: our experienced coaches help you read the conditions, choose the right spot, and progress with purpose.

  • April: consistent swell, warm water, blue skies. Between surfs, explore hidden beaches, ancient temples and lively markets.

Who it’s for
  • Beginners: find your feet on forgiving waves like Dreamland, Balangan and Padang Padang Right—with local coaches by your side at every step.

  • Intermediates: push yourself at peaks such as Impossibles and Bingin.

  • Advanced: Uluwatu, Padang Padang (Left) and more are waiting—come ready for barrels and film-worthy lines.

Beyond the surf

Bali is a wellness paradise. Picture a traditional Balinese massage in a flowered garden overlooking rice fields, or a soothing body scrub with the sound of the ocean in the background. Local spas blend time-honoured techniques—acupressure, reflexology—with modern treatments: flower baths, herbal compresses, rice scrubs.

After a quick massage or a full retreat with yoga and healthy cooking classes, you’ll feel reset. They don’t call Bali the Island of the Gods for nothing—there are retreats and meditation centres everywhere.

And the food? Delicious Balinese/Indonesian flavours—think nasi goreng, satay, gado-gado—from warungs by the beach to stylish cafés.

Remember

This is more than a surf trip. It’s a chance to connect with the ocean, challenge yourself, and experience the magic of Bali.

Itinerary

A Typical Day on Our Surf Trip — Nias

We start early, check the waves, and set individual goals for the day. Then it’s straight into the first surf session. After surfing and breakfast, we run a video review to work on technique.

Waves in Nias just keep coming, so expect plenty of water time. Before the afternoon session we do a little land prep, then head back out. This is where first barrels and bigger turns often click—the wave lets it happen.

In the evening we meet for dinner on the island, then close the day with another short video analysis.

A Typical Day — Bali

In Bali, tides rule, so surf times shift with the best windows. Off the water, we explore the island and its amazing breakfast, lunch, and dinner spots.

We’ll visit different beaches and maybe enjoy a party or two. Beyond surfing, Bali is cultural immersion—plenty of chances to learn about Balinese traditions and daily life.

Getting Around

Bali: Use Gojek or Grab for quick, affordable rides.
Nias: Most things revolve around the surf and the natural setting. Everything you need is walking distance from the accommodation.

Have questions about logistics? Message us and we’ll guide you through everything.

Accommodation Details

Accommodation — Nias

We chose this guesthouse because it’s unique: you wake up right in front of the wave, the owner is a surf pioneer in Nias, and his wife cooks delicious home-style meals and serves them to your room.
Prefer a resort standard? There’s a next-door option for an additional cost. Contact us if you’d like to upgrade.

Accommodation — Bali

In Uluwatu, we stay at Kala Surf Camp—comfort + style + Bali’s one-of-a-kind energy. It’s perfectly located: close to nature, minutes from beaches and local life.
We’ll use standard twin/double rooms (2 people) with Balinese charm. ✨
If you want extra comfort, request an upgrade to a deluxe room for an additional fee—just ask.
It’s the ideal place to reset after a full day, recharge, and soak up the Bali experience. 🌺

Spot advisory (read this)

Entry/exit at the main spot is over soft coral/smooth reef. It’s friendly, but tender feet can get nicked. Most of us surf barefoot; if you’re more sensitive, pack thin booties (we don’t usually use them, but they help some people). Follow the guide: use the channel, time a lull, shuffle carefully, and never stand on living coral.
