The background
Swell Adventures is the brainchild of Lucas, a Carioca surfer with a deep love for his hometown's breaks, and Suzanne, a globetrotting adventurer and surfer with a love for connecting and exploring cultures. We believe surfing is more than just a sport; it's a journey of self-discovery, connection, and pure stoke. Indonesia is like a second home to us, we spent many months here in the past. There's no better place for adventure than Indo, and trust us, there will be plenty of stories to tell.

Why North Sumatra?
Suzane spent 4 months in Nias during Covid, so picture it: empty lineups, warm water and a tropical garden in the backyard full of fresh fruit. All food comes from the island, especially rice - we can always join locals in their agriculture activities. The lenght of the wave is what helped Suzanne improve her backhand. The wave is easy to drop, there is a good wall to ride and no danger, because the coral is deep. What's more, most of the time you don't need to duckdive to come back, because there is a channel where waves don't break. And you don't have to sit on the outside, there is a smaller inside wave and you will never be alone. The wave is suitable for longboards and shortboards as well.

Why Bali?
We know conditions in Bali are not what they used to be due to mass-tourism. However, every time we go there, we are always humbled by the Balinese culture, and we believe in sustainable travel. When we travel to a place we honour it, learn about it and explore its every facet while staying aware of the local customs and learning how to respect it. There is magic on the Island of Gods, perfect waves, amazing food and good people, that's why we will always come back. If it's your first time in Bali, prepare yourself for an experience like no-other. If you've been before, we'll make sure to enhance your experience with plenty of fun, new places to explore and surf progression.

Important details
Getting around: Are you feeling adventurous? If so, we like to rent scooters and ride along. If you're more of a back seat person you can order a pickup with a scooter driver with Grab/GoJe. We don't advise going by car, because the transit in Bali can get chaotic and with a scooter you are faster. If we go on longer journeys like Ubud, then we rent a Van, but will leave early morning in order to avoid transit.
Airport Pickup will be done by our hired driver.
About our package: If you're more about comfort and you want to combine the fun of Bali's nightlife with the surf and cultural experience, but want to skip the whole remote island part of the trip, we get you. Contact us for a personalized Bali package. It goes the other way around too, if you're only in for the Nias/North Sumatra experience, let us know and we'll assist you
